ANN ARBOR, MI – A 16-month-old boy shot in the head in Ann Arbor Sunday afternoon is still in critical condition and undergoing continued treatment, police say.

Officers responded to reports of an infant injury to the head at 1:08 p.m., Oct. 24, in the 700 block of North Maple Road, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department.

The boy’s father was taking the child to the hospital when police arrived at the scene and took over, rushing the boy to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital’s emergency room, police said.

The child underwent emergency surgery at the hospital and remains in critical condition while police continue to investigate the shooting, police said.

There was not a threat to the community following the shooting, police said.

Investigators are still questioning witnesses who were at the home at the time of the shooting, police said.

No additional details are being released at this time as the shooting remains under investigation.
