Syracuse, N.Y. — Two men were rushed to Upstate University Hospital Thursday night and are in critical condition after getting shot on the South Side, Syracuse police Chief Kenton Buckner said at the scene.
Police cruisers lined the two blocks between South State and South McBride streets after the shooting was reported just before 7 p.m. Multiple people called 911 to report the shooting, Buckner said.
The two men were found on East Raynor Street with gunshot wounds to the head, Buckner said.
Police later learned that a third man who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound was taken to Upstate University Hospital in a private vehicle and is in stable condition, police said.
A gun was reported to have been recovered by police on East Raynor Street, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches. Buckner said this appears to be a larger incident with multiple crime scenes.
Police were reported to be chasing a suspect vehicle on Pine Street on the city’s Near East Side, according to dispatches. The suspect bailed from the vehicle and started running toward East Genesee Street.
A helicopter was reported to be searching the area. Police also requested a K9 unit from the county, according to dispatches.
Buckner said he was unaware of any chase Syracuse police were involved in regarding this shooting.
Police ask anyone with information about the shootings to call the Syracuse Police Department at 315-442-5222.
