EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County Clerk Debbie Ming-Mendoza on Wednesday announced that she will seek a third term in 2022.
“Since taking over as clerk in 2012 it has been my goal to provide excellent services to the county while holding the line on the spending,” she said. “And my team and I have accomplished that while taking on even more responsibilities.”
With the combination of the Madison County Recorder’s Office into the clerk’s office this year, Ming-Mendoza said she and her team have established a funding method less reliant on the county’s general fund, resulting in a savings to taxpayers. Her office also has also worked to increase access to voters and address a declining number of people wishing to be election judges.
“I’m so very proud of our efforts to ensure access to voting for all residents that ensure fair and free elections,” she said. “It really is my passion.
“It has been my great pleasure and privilege to serve the people of Madison County these last eight years as clerk, and I look forward to the opportunity serve four more years,” said Ming-Mendoza.
State Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, said Ming-Mendoza helped her craft House Bill 1871 that expanded voting access throughout Illinois. Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the bill in early April.
“Debbie was instrumental in offering advice on the legislation that we passed last year and is dedicated to ensuring free and fair elections,” said Stuart. “There is no better clerk in Illinois at running elections and I’m proud to support Debbie in her re-election efforts.”
State Sen. Rachelle Crowe, D-Glen Carbon, stated that under Ming-Mendoza Madison County now offers “some of the best run elections in the state.”
Ming-Mendoza and her husband, Mercie, live in Granite City. They have two grandchildren from her son, Richard, and daughter-in-law, Jeana, who also live in Granite City.
