Incumbent Andy Ezard will remain Jacksonville’s mayor for at least four more years after being re-elected Tuesday.
Ezard retained his seat with 1,601 votes against Nicole Riley, who received 366 votes — roughly 81% to 19%.
“This will be my fourth term as mayor, and I think it is a bold statement by the citizens of Jacksonville to re-elect me,” Ezard said.
Now that he has been re-elected, Ezard said he wants to continue to build on many of the good things he and the other council members, as well as community organizations have started.
One thing is the city’s infrastructure.
“Our infrastructure in a number one priority,” Ezard said. “We have to make Jacksonville attractive.”
Working with the school district and local engineers and other organizations, Ezard said he wants to help improve the city’s building blocks — the sewer plant, streets and sidewalks, as well as parks and programs.
Ezard said the role is a challenge, and he feels he has done a good job over the past 13 years.
“It’s a tough job. It’s been hard since day one,” Ezard said. “There have been a lot of ups and downs, but I feel I’ve done an adequate job.”
But, he said he isn’t doing this alone.
“I have a great team,” Ezard said. “The aldermen, department heads — we work well with each other, and I look forward to those relationships continuing to grow over the years.”
Prior to being elected mayor, Ezard served as city clerk from 2005 to 2009. He also previously worked in state government from 1991 to 2005 in the Office of Governor Jim Edgar and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Ezard grew up in Jacksonville and said it is an honor to continue serving the community. He and his wife, Jenissa, have two children, Kaylee and Drew.
He is a member of the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club, Illinois School for the Visually Impaired Advisory Council, Jacksonville Chapter N.A.A.C.P., Morgan County Republican Women’s Club, Passavant Hospital Auxiliary, I-Fund, Eastern Illinois University Alumni Association, and an honorary member of the Jacksonville Rotary Club.
