After deploying more than $2.2 million in the area for COVID-19 relief efforts, the North Valley Community Foundation will pivot toward long-term needs with its COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund.

The $2.2 million in grants have been issued through the COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund, Aaron Rodgers Small-Business COVID-19 Fund, NVCF’s Operating Fund and various charitable funds held at NVCF but guided by community members.

NVCF will announce criteria for a second round of small-business grants after Aaron Rodgers’ run as guest host of “Jeopardy!” ends. The game show is matching the winnings of contestants each night for two weeks and donating it to Rodgers’ fund at NVCF.

The donations remaining in the COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund will be used for long-term recovery initiatives.

“With more people vaccinated and going back to work, we know that doesn’t necessarily mean things will be normal again,” said Alexa Benson-Valavanis, NVCF president and CEO. “There will be long-term ramifications as at-risk populations recover from this massive upheaval. Our fund will help address the inevitable problems that come to the surface.”

The Rapid Response Fund has been used to provide food; help with distance learning for students; face shields for health care workers in Butte, Glenn, Tehama and Colusa counties; face masks; cleaning supplies; support for domestic violence programs; and much more.

In addition, Feather River Health Foundation has partnered with NVCF and covers half the award for many grants from the Rapid Response Fund, stretching the donated dollars.
