Growing up in Houston, learning to maneuver deteriorating roads is a rite of passage. Rough roads and construction have been a part of the commute since I was a kid. I'm 24 now--roads like Bissonett and Holmes will take you on an unwarranted rollercoaster ride.

According to a study conducted by CoPilot, researchers have found that nearly one third (28.6 percent) of Houston area roads are in poor condition, which is worse than the national average of 26.4 percent.

The research finds that 7.9 percent of Houston freeways and interstates are in poor condition. In addition to that, 40.8 percent of local arterials are in poor condition, according to the study.

The study also notes 27.8 of daily vehicle miles per capita.

CoPilot detailed their methodology and results, and came to the conclusion that, "among U.S. urban areas with more than 100,000 people, there is a negative correlation between the percentage of roads in poor condition and the number of miles per day people travel. In other words, people tend to drive more in cities with better roads."

Of the entire study, Houston ranks at No. 22 for worst road conditions, significantly beating our other metropolitan counterpart, Dallas-Fort Worth, which came in at No. 12. San Antonio and Austin also made the list, coming in at No. 31 and No. 36.

Houston having rough roads isn't new information to us, we live through it everyday. But it's always important to have a leg up on Dallas.

Now, let's add this to our metaphorical list giving you reasons why Houston is much better than Dallas.
