The Los Angeles Rams don’t have a timetable for the return of A’Shawn Robinson after an undisclosed medical condition landed the former Alabama All-American on the non-football injury list, Sean McVay, the NFL team’s coach, said on Sunday.

The Rams placed the defensive tackle on NFI on Saturday.

“He’s able to partake in meetings, get treatment, be around his teammates,” McVay said. “We’ll look forward to getting him back at some point this season. When that is, I don’t know specifically.”

An exam for training camp identified Robinson’s condition, which McVay declined to specify. Jordan Rodrigue of The Athletic reported the problem was cardiovascular in nature. McVay did say Robinson would not need a medical procedure to correct the condition.

“It’s not anything that’s too concerning,” McVay said. “I’m glad we were able to get a hold of it early on. It’s something that surprised us. This wasn’t something we expected.”

After spending his first four NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions, Robinson joined Los Angeles as a free agent on March 18 for a two-year, $17 million contract.

In 2019, when he started nine games, Robinson had 40 tackles and knocked down three passes while playing 46 percent of the defensive snaps for the Lions. He missed the final three games of the season because of a shoulder injury.

In 58 games with Detroit, Robinson had 37 starts, 172 tackles, five sacks, 16 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception, which he returned 2 yards for a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 15, 2017. The interception is one of 16 passes that Robinson has gotten at least a hand on during his NFL career.

At Alabama, Robinson was a consensus All-American in 2015 for the Crimson Tide’s CFP national championship team.

Robinson entered the NFL as a second-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.
