OAKLAND — The driver of a car that fled the scene after hitting and critically injuring a 64-year-old woman who was crossing a West Oakland street Friday afternoon is being sought by police, authorities said.
The woman’s name has not been released. Police said she is an Oakland resident.
The woman was hit about 3:36 p.m. Friday in the 2700 block of San Pablo Avenue.
Police said the woman was crossing the street in mid-block when she was hit by a vehicle in the northbound lanes. The driver fled from the scene in the vehicle, a light colored compact, without stopping.
A detailed description of the driver has not been released.
The woman suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital where she is in critical condition..
Police said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver. Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
