Coronavirus vaccines will only bring about a "new normality" if all existing measures to control the pandemic are maintained. This was stated on Friday by Michael Ryan, director of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Emergency Program.
“We hope to be able to add vaccination to the current measures to contain the pandemic. But I want to be clear: vaccination does not mean ending Covid-19. We must add vaccines to the existing arsenal of measures. If we add vaccines to our current actions, we have a significant possibility of reducing transmission and potentially stopping transmission."
“But if we can stop mortality, take the burden off health systems, control transmission dynamics, then our economy, our society can return to what we call the norm, or at least come to a "new normality," Ryan said.
As we reported earlier, the World Health Organization praised "phenomenal" promise of vaccines.
“Vaccines, combined with other public health measures, bring the end of an acute phase of the pandemic and the rebuilding of economies within reach,” Hans Kluge, World Health Organization European director noted.
