A shooting in the area of Villa Parke in Pasadena on Tuesday afternoon left one man dead and two others hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.
Pasadena police received a call about shots fired in the vicinity of the park just before 3 p.m., said Lt. William Grisafe, a police spokesman.
Officers arrived at the north side of the park on Parke Street, where they found the three victims with gunshot wounds, Grisafe said.
One man in his 30s or 40s was pronounced dead at the scene, Grisafe said, while paramedics transported two men to a local hospital. Both were in critical condition, though one of the men was listed as stable.
The identity of the deceased man will not be publicly available until officials notify his family.
Police urged the public to avoid the streets surrounding the park — Parke Street, East Villa Street and Los Robles Avenue — while investigators survey the scene.
It was not immediately clear how and why the shooting unfolded. Police said they did not have a description of an assailant.
A witness told officers of a dark-colored sedan leaving the area around the time of the shooting, Grisafe said.
