SIGEL – A woman and child injured in a fatal crash Sunday afternoon between a car and a dump truck are in critical condition at Marshfield Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The crash happened about noon Sunday at the intersection of State 186 and State 73 in the town of Sigel.
A southbound dump truck on State 186 failed to yield from the stop sign for a westbound vehicle on State 73, according to a news release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department. The three people in the car were trapped.
The female driver and a child in the back seat were seriously injured and taken by Life Link III and Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance to Marshfield Medical Center. The male passenger in the front seat was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. The driver of the dump truck sustained minor injuries.
State 73 and State 186 were closed for about five hours.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol, Vesper Fire Department, United Ambulance, Wisconsin Rapids Ambulance, Life Link III, Wood County Highway Department and the Wood County Coroner.
