When these indices are compared to where we were this time last year (green bars), the current crop condition index ranges from 53 points higher for oats to 133 points higher for winter wheat. For the selected crops, the current index is anywhere from 1.4 times to 4.7 times higher than reported for this week one year ago.
The stage of crop development across the province is both ahead of this time last year and ahead of average. According to the provincial government, 79% of the fall cereals (56%/60.6%), 70% of the spring cereals (48%/63.8%), 63% of the oilseeds (36%/57%) and 80% of pulse crops (52%/65.4%) are at normal growth stages for this week, which is compared to the 2019 rating and the five-year average for this week in brackets. This crop is off to a good start.
When the current crop condition index is compared to the five-year average (purple bars), we see that the selected crops are all above average for this week. Across these crops, this ranges from 12.2 points higher for oats to 35.4% higher for lentils.
On June 29, Statistics Canada will release updated seeded-acre estimates.
