TOWN OF LEE — A 66-year-old man was listed in stable condition after his Ultralight aircraft crashed into a building at the E. Centro International Air Park Monday morning.
State police said Ronald S. Richards Jr., 66, of Blossvale, was operating a single-engine Ultralight when he appeared to have engine failure while coming in for a landing at the privately-owned air strip at about 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Troopers said Richards’ fixed-wing craft crashed into the roof of an unoccupied building.
Rescue personnel responded to the Air Park at 4931 Lee Valley Road and authorities said Richards was initially trapped inside his craft. Rescue crews pulled him out and he was air-lifted by Mercy Flight helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse.
Troopers said Richards suffered an injury to his leg and was last listed in stable condition at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation, according to state police officials.
