SALEM TWP., MI - A motorcyclist remains in critical condition from a crash with a semitrailer on Sunday, police said.

Troopers responded to the crash at around 1:20 a.m., June 21 on westbound M-14 near Gotfredson Road in Salem Township, 12 miles northeast of Ann Arbor, said the Michigan State Police.

Motorcycle crash leaves 1 in critical condition in Ann Arbor area, officials say

Investigators determined a semitrailer traveling east used the emergency turn around to transfer into the westbound lanes, police said. The 26-year-old Manchester man driving the motorcycle was driving west on the highway when he struck the truck, police said.

He was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital on Sunday in critical condition, and his status hasn’t been updated at this time, police said.

It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said, and it is unknown if the Manchester man was wearing a helmet. The case is still under investigation. The Salem Township Fire Department assisted on the scene.

The area around westbound M-14 and Gotfredson Road was closed from 2:02 to 5:22 a.m., according to Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office alerts on Sunday.
