A man who stabbed himself Thursday night after leading police on a brief chase and crashing into a parked car in Aloha is in critical condition, officials said Friday morning.

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a suspected drunk driver around 8: 50 p.m. They found the vehicle in a McDonald’s on Southwest Farmington Road near Southwest 184th Avenue. The man then drove away and led officers on a brief chase, officials said, but he was located a short time later after he crashed into a car parked on Rosa Road.

While officers were talking to the man, he got back in his car and stabbed himself, officials said.

Officers started emergency aid, but the man went unconscious, officials said. He was taken to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

The man, who police have not identified, has been cited for the preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated, attempt to elude, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and hit and run.
