A 67-year-old man was in critical condition Monday night after an assault in Oxnard, authorities said.
The incident was reported shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Ventura Road, according to the Oxnard Police Department. The victim, described as homeless, was found at the scene suffering from significant head injuries. He was found near the Chicago Deli & Mini Mart in a commercial area at the northeast corner of Ventura and Gonzales roads, officials said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition, according to police. The department's violent crimes unit is assisting with the investigation.
