Parkland City Commissioner Ken Cutler was re-elected without opposition for his District 3 seat on Friday. Elected in 2016, this will be his second four-year term.
“First, I want to say it’s been an honor and privilege to serve the last four years,” he said.
Serving isn’t new to Cutler; he was always involved with the city years before running for office.
In 1988, he joined the Parkland Friends of the Library and, the following year, he appeared before the City Commission and encouraged them to build a new library for Parkland.
During the next four years, Cutler served on the Library Building Committee and devoted countless hours leading the planning and preparation for the new library.
He was also instrumental in the move into the new library building, and during its latest expansion.
But these past few years on the Parkland city commission have been like no other in the aftermath of one of the worst school shootings.
“I felt the burden of the last four years, but at the same time, I feel I have been put in the right place at the right time to serve my community — and looking forward to serving the next four.”
Born and raised in Hollywood, Cutler graduated from Hollywood Hills High School, the University of Florida, and Nova Law School, where he earned his law degree.
Since 1986, Cutler has been litigating cases in both State and Federal Courts, concentrating in personal injury law as a founding member of the Cutler Rader Law Firm.
In 1997, Cutler and his wife Sharon moved to the Cypresshead development in Parkland. Their children Douglas and Samantha, attended Riverglades Elementary School, Westglades Middle School, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where Sharon is a teacher.
Cutler is looking forward to the next four years; however, he’s concerned about how the economy and COVID-19 has affected local businesses and residents. The impact could even affect real estate, as people move to Parkland for the schools.
“We’re going to have a lot of issues this next for years, and I hope we get a commission that gels and understands what’s up ahead.”
Cutler will be sworn-in in November.
