SAN FRANCISCO – Two teenage boys are listed in serious condition and three others are stable after being pulled from the surf at Ocean Beach in San Francisco on Thursday, officials said.

The incident was reported just before 2 p.m. at Great Highway and Vicente Street.

A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were taken to an area hospital, according to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and the San Francisco Fire Department.

Ever-present rip currents make Ocean Beach a dangerous place to swim and surf. Last week, a 31-year-old man went into cardiac arrest and died after being rescued, according to media reports.
