Lady Gaga’s “selfless” dog walker Ryan Fischer, who was shot by crooks who stole two of her beloved pooches, is reportedly well enough now to text a pal that he was breathing on his own.
Fischer was in stable condition after being shot once in the chest when two thugs ambushed him Wednesday night as he strolled in Hollywood with the pop icon’s three French bulldogs, LAPD Capt. Jonathan Tippet told People magazine.
When asked if Fischer will make a full recovery, Tippet responded, “I believe he will.”
Dr. Fred Pescatore, a friend and former client of Fischer’s, told the mag that Fischer texted him from his hospital bed Thursday and said he was “breathing on his own now.”
“The thing he texted was not even about him. It was, ‘I miss you. I love you. Thank you,'” said Pescatore, who described his pal as a selfless, “amazing” person.
Fischer used to walk Pescatore’s beagle, Remington, when he lived in the Big Apple, according to People.
“I’ve never met anyone [who doesn’t love him]. There’s nothing negative about that man,” he told the publication, adding that Fischer has a special fondness for dogs.
“He’s just amazing with them. He cares. They’re like his children,” Pescatore said. “He’s very in tune with the dogs’ needs. He would do anything for them — anything.”
The friend also cited the horrifying video that captured the moment Fischer was shot and screamed for help as he lay bleeding on the street.
When Fischer refused to let go of the dogs, one of his attackers raised a handgun and fired a single shot, leaving Fischer splayed out on the sidewalk as the duo grabbed two of Gaga’s three dogs, Gustav and Koji, and fled in the car.
“He would protect these dogs with his life. And he almost has. And let’s hope he has not,” Pescatore told People.
The singer is offering a $500,000 reward for information about her dogs.
“I just want the world to know the man behind Lady Gaga’s dogs, and other people’s dogs,” Pescatore said. “And this man deserves recognition. He was the one that was shot. He was the one protecting her dogs. And not enough people are focusing on that.”
The police captain told People there are currently two suspects, both believed to be black men between the ages of 20 and 25.
Fischer’s wallet was not stolen and Tippet said the men “intended to rob the individual of the dogs.”
